This project was a part of my first internship, taking place at Sexual Health Victoria. After completing this campaign, it was funded by the Department of Health and picked up SHV’s parent company, Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia, and released nationally across Australia.
I was tasked with creating a campaign alongside the marketing team that targeted adolescent teens, in an effort to broaden awareness and help educate them about sexually transmitted infections and the accessibility of getting tested. Campaign deliverables include posters for print and web, website assets for a new section on the website and social media assets for potential posts. Alongside this major project was an update of the EDM banners for SHV.
My overarching concept for the campaign was that all STIs can be treated, whether they show visible symptoms or not; many are invisible and getting a precautionary test is advised for everyone. In this we began brainstorming how to show STIs being hidden, I developed a unique overlaying pattern of dots that when coloured correctly, offset and paired with a spotted background, created a shimmer effect, making some of the lettering ‘hidden’ while overall still legible. The most effective part is that, depending on what distance you’re viewing from, and if you are moving, the message will become more or less visible.
Keeping in mind that this is a nationally released campaign for a sexual health clinic, the clarity of the message was paramount, opting to have strong contrasting colours and bold lettering for the main message of all STIs being able to be treated.
